Motlow nursing graduates consistently have a job placement rate of 95-100%. 

The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) nursing program prepares you to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for the Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). The four-semester curriculum emphasizes the application of the nursing core competencies: professional behavior, communication, assessment, clinical decision making, caring intervention, teaching and learning, collaboration, and managing care of a diverse client population.

Clinical activities are provided in campus classrooms, area hospitals, extended care facilities, and other health and community agencies. While the majority of the clinical experiences are located within the college's 11-county service area, additional travel is sometimes required. Students completing this program will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Articulation with a baccalaureate program of study is supported.

Student Selection Process

Applicants are ranked in numerical order on a selection list with the highest scores selected to fill the class. Students are notified of their fall semester admission status in April via their Motlow email account. Selection for admission to the Nursing Program is based upon a point system, with the highest points possible being 600 plus eligible applicants earning up to 100 quality points.

Students admitted to the Nursing Program are required to attend a Nursing Program Orientation Session.

The Nursing Program offers a three-semester transition program for LPNs who seek to become a Registered Nurse.

Motlow offers three different options for obtaining your A.A.S in Nursing. The traditional 2-year track, the LPN to RN Bridge for those with an LPN license, and the Paramedic-to-RN Bridge for those with a Paramedic license.

Next Course of Action

  • Apply and be accepted to Motlow State Community College OR Update your Motlow application
  • Use MyMotlow to complete the application to the desired program option:
    • Traditional
    • LPN-to-RN
    • Paramedic-to-RN
  • If applying for the LPN-to-RN track or the Paramedic-to-RN track, students must submit a copy of their active current unencumbered Tennessee or Multistate LPN or Paramedic license to [email protected] by the published deadline
  • Schedule and take the appropriate entrance exam
    • Traditional track – HESI A2
    • LPN-to-RN – HESI Fundamentals of Nursing
    • Paramedic-to-RN – HESI A2
  • Complete required prerequisite courses. ALL science courses must have been completed within the last five (5) years. Students must make a grade of C or better in ALL Math and Science courses

The application for the traditional and LPN-to-RN tracks opens November 1 and closes January 31 of each academic year. The application for the Paramedic-to-RN Bridge program opens May 1 and closes September 30 of each academic year. The deadline for Paramedic-to-RN has been extended to January 31. Applications and all supporting documentation are to be submitted no later than the deadline stated above.
