Tuition-Free COLLEGE

If you are a Tennessee high school graduate, or plan to be one, you might be eligible for five college semesters of free tuition. Sound too good to be true? It is a fact with the Tennessee Promise scholarship.

What Tennessee Promise Covers

This is a last-dollar scholarship. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell Grant, the HOPE Scholarship, or the Tennessee Student Assistance Award. The scholarship may provide you with the opportunity to attend Motlow tuition-free.

Application Deadline: November 2

The TN Promise application deadline for current high school seniors is November 2.

Community Service Deadlines

Community service will be due no later than August 1 each year. You will submit at least 16 hours of community service by August 1 to cover the academic year. Any additional hours submitted will roll over to the next deadline. Once you submit 32 hours of community service that meet the guidelines, your community service requirement will be complete.
We recommend completing 32 hours as soon as possible. You may begin counting hours completed after August 1 of your junior year of high school.

Tennessee Promise Information

OVERVIEW

The Tennessee Promise is both a scholarship and mentoring program. It provides you a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the scholarship will cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell grant, the HOPE scholarship, or TSAA.

Eligibility

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be a Tennessee resident as classified by the Tennessee Board of Regents policy
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Complete the Tennessee Promise application by November 2 and complete the FAFSA by April 1 of the high school senior year
  • Graduate from a TN high school, bordering high school, or home school. A student is also eligible by earning a high school equivalency credential approved by the state board of education, e.g. - GED, HiSET or New Pathways prior to the 19th birthday
  • Attend a mandatory Tennessee Promise meeting
  • Complete and submit at least 16 hours of community service for each year in the program
  • The student must be continuously enrolled at an eligible postsecondary institution in the fall and spring semesters
  • Students must also maintain a 2.0 GPA at the end of each academic year
