The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Medical Lab Technology degree prepares you for an entry-level position. The MLT performs lab tests to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients. Program graduates are eligible to take national certification exams and apply for Tennessee licensure as Medical Lab Technicians. This set of courses is not designed to transfer to a university.

Admission to the MLT program is on a limited and competitive basis. To be eligible for admission, you must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale), successfully complete all the required 16 hours of general education courses, complete each of the following courses with a grade of "C" or better BIOL 2020, BIOL 2230 (or CHEM 1010 or higher), MLAB 1301 and complete one of the elective options listed below. All MLT courses except clinical practicums are taught at the Smyrna campus.

The mission of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at Motlow State involves the development of graduates possessing the technical competencies and workforce skills necessary for entry-level medical laboratory technicians. The Program emphasizes applied scientific theory and intensive technical proficiency to provide an instructive and comprehensive educational experience that is compliant with accreditation and professional standards at both the national and state levels.
