Personal Safety & Security

  • Program personal numbers into your cell phone
  • All classrooms and office phones are capable of dialing 911 in an emergency (Dial 9-911)
  • Familiarize yourself with the layout of the campus
  • Plan the safest route to your destination
  • Travel, walk, or park in well lighted areas and with a companion whenever possible
  • Share your class schedule with your parents and trusted friends and give them your telephone numbers
  • Keep your car in good repair and always lock your doors
  • Store packages or valuables in the trunk or out of sight
  • Never carry large sums of money
  • When you carry a purse, keep it firmly in your hand with the clasp near your body
  • Males should always carry their wallet in a front pocket
  • If you must walk alone, use good judgment in avoiding any areas that present obvious danger and walk along sidewalks closer to the street when passing alleyways, bushes, or other obstructions
  • Whenever possible try to walk facing traffic
  • If someone is following you, change direction and go to the nearest occupied location for help
  • Be cautious when using elevators; stand near the buttons and get off immediately if you are suspicious of other occupants
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times, making eye contact with those you meet
  • Keep your keys separate from your purse or backpack
