Paramedic A.A.S.

Paramedics save lives by responding to emergency medical calls and make critical decisions, including providing the initial care to the sick and injured. This program will prepare you to have the tools to save those lives. This is a fast paced, high energy program and we expect you to utilize those characteristics when you complete the program. The best emergency medical professionals are people who can remain calm in hectic situations and are detail-oriented, empathetic, compassionate, systematic and can be authoritative and directive. Motlow State Community College's Paramedic Associate of Applied Science Degree will prepare you with basic and advanced skills to assist in the transition to the actual emergency world.

The Paramedic is an emergency medical professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Paramedic is the link from the scene into the health care system.

Upon successful completion of Emergency Medical Training, students are eligible to sit for the practical certification examination administered by the Tennessee Division of Emergency Medical Services as well as the written exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Once all necessary credentials and licensures have been obtained, you may enjoy many career opportunities.
