HESI Exams

Each Motlow nursing applicant takes a Health Education Systems (HESI) exam. Two-year program applicants take the admission exam. LPN to RN Bridge applicants take the fundamental exam.

Deadline

The deadline for submitting the best HESI A2 Entrance Exam summary or HESI Fundamental Exam summary for candidates with LPN Licensure to the Nursing Department is January 31 at 4:30 p.m. CST.

How to Register for HESI exam

Appointments for the HESI A2 Entrance exam, as well as the HESI Fundamental Entrance exam, and a list of open dates are available online through Register Blast. After completing the online registration form, applicant will receive an email confirmation. Registration is available beginning in August through January.

Step 1

Complete an online application on RegisterBlast

  • Go to RegisterBlast and complete the HESI Entrance Exam application
  • You must pay appropriate fees

Create an Account with ProctorU

Step 3

Create or Update an Evolve Account

  • Create an account at Evolve. If candidate has an account with a previous email, please update the account

Step 4

Schedule an appointment with ProctorU for the test

  • Log in to your ProctorU account to schedule an appointment
  • Select "Here to take an Exam"
  • Select RN Admission Assessment - 1st time tester exam for your first attempt or 2nd time tester exam if you have already taken the exam once this application year. Follow the instructions for scheduling a time to take the HESI Exam

Day of the Test

  • Log into your ProctorU account
  • Go to HESI iNet
  • Click on compatibility check
  • ProctorU will enter a password that will allow you to start the exam
  • You have 4 hours to complete the exam

FEES

The non-refundable fee for the HESI A2 Entrance test is $53.50 and the non-refundable fee for the HESI Fundamental Entrance Exam is $38.50. All fees must be paid when scheduling an appointment. The registration fee for the HESI entrance exam must be paid online with a debit or credit card at the time of registration.

Eligibility

Candidates are eligible to take the test two times during the months of August through January. Candidates are responsible for scanning and e-mailing the best HESI A2 Entrance Exam summary or HESI Fundamental Exam summary for candidates with LPN Licensure to the [email protected] by the deadline.

Transcripts

Transcript requests submitted to Elsevier will require 7-10 business days for processing. An alternative option is requesting a copy of the HESI transcript from the Motlow Testing Center using the link below.

Please contact the nursing department for a complete list of requirements for the program. Scores are available for viewing after the test and valid for five years.

Dates and Locations

The computer-based format test is administered in March at the Fayetteville, Moore County (Tullahoma), McMinnville and Smyrna campuses.

HESI Fundamental Exam: LPN to RN Bridge applicants

The entrance examination for the Motlow LPN to RN Bridge program is the RN Fundamental Assessment (HESI). The exam covers basic nursing care knowledge. You are required to score 850 on the Fundamental exam to be considered for the LPN to RN Bridge program. The entrance examination is offered once-a-month from August-January. To register follow the steps for HESI Fundamental Entrance Exam Registration. Candidates must email a copy of the best HESI Entrance Exam summary to [email protected] by the deadline. Please refer to the Nursing Program Application Checklist before scheduling an exam appointment to ensure that your test registration is accurate for the nursing program application you are completing.

HESI A2 Admission Exam: two-year applicants

The entrance examination for the Motlow Nursing Program is the Admission Assessment by Health Education Systems (HESI). The test covers math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, learning style and personality profile assessments. You are required to score 80% on the Admission Assessment to be considered for the two-year nursing program. The entrance examination is offered once-a-month from August-January. Candidates should contact Evolve/Elsevier to request a transcript of their score report to be sent to the Nursing Department. Scanned copies from the student will not be accepted by the Motlow Nursing Department. Transcripts may also be requested through the Motlow Testing Center.

Health Education Systems publishes a guide to help you prepare for the exam. You may purchase the HESI Admission Assessment Study Guide at Follett Bookstore or Amazon.

HESI Fundamental Exam

The HESI Fundamental exam is basic nursing care knowledge. Health Education Systems does not publish a study guide for the exam. A study reference resource may be purchased at Follett Bookstore.

Testing Center Rules and Policies

  • Set up an account with Elsevier Evolve to secure a username and password for the test
  • Proctored tests are by appointment only
  • You will receive an email confirmation after scheduling an appointment
  • Valid Photo ID is required for the test
  • Staff cannot watch unattended children
  • Personal belongings such as hats, coats, food, drinks, cellular phones, electronic devices, handheld computers, purses or backpacks are not allowed in the Testing Center
  • Examinees may not take notes or scratch paper out of the Testing Center
  • Calculators are permitted for specific tests and may be inspected prior to use
  • Open book/open note testing is only permitted for authorized tests
  • Acts of dishonesty or misconduct may cause dismissal from the Testing Center. Please refer to the college's conduct and disciplinary sanctions in the catalog
