GENERAL REQUIRMENTS
To be eligible to take the tests, an applicant must be 17 years of age. Anyone 18 or younger or anyone who has been enrolled in the current school year must have an approval (age waiver form) from the school system. The applicant must be officially withdrawn from high school and did not graduate or receive a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.

Fee: The non-refundable fee for the complete battery of the GED test is $50.00 or $10 per partial battery. Make check/money order payable to: Motlow State Community College

There is a $20.00 charge for any check tendered for payment to the college that is subsequently dishonored and returned by the bank. The test fee will not be refunded should you cancel your test date. The application fee is void after 90 days.

Official Practice Test: All applicants must provide a notarized copy of the Official Practice Test from an Adult Education Center.

Recent Picture: A recent picture taken within the last year must accompany the application. A Xerox copy of driver’s license is not acceptable.

Confirmation of Test Date: Once your file is complete, a confirmation letter will be mailed to you confirming your scheduled test date. If the application is not complete, a letter will be mailed and the application will be put in the incomplete file until application is complete. Once requested documents are received, the applicant will be mailed a confirmation letter and scheduled for the next available test date. Only 25 examinees can be assigned to each date. The first 25 applicants will receive priority. Test dates are subject to change at any time prior to or during the academic year.

Retest Policy: Applicants may retest in each subject three (3) times during each calendar year using a different form each time.

Scoring Information: An overall total of 2250 points or an average of 450 with a minimum of 410 in all subject areas is required to be eligible to obtain a GED or High School Equivalency Diploma in Tennessee.

Previous Test Score: If you have taken the GED Test or portions of the Test at a different testing center, you must request that your scores be forwarded to Motlow State Community College, Dept. 540, P.O.Box 8500, Lynchburg, TN 37352. These scores must be received directly from the test site; a personal copy of your scores will not be accepted. These scores must be received before an applicant can be scheduled to test.

Test Administration: Testing will begin at 7:20 a.m. and will last approximately 8 hours. There is a 30-minute lunch break. All scratch paper, pencils and calculator will be provided. PROOF OF AGE AND IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED ON THE DAY OF THE TEST. A DRIVER’S LICENSE, PASSPORT, SCHOOL PICTURE ID CARD, OR OTHER PICTURE IDENTIFICATION ARE ALL ACCEPTABLE AS PROOF OF IDENTIFICATION. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PICTURE IDENTIFICATION, YOU CANNOT TEST.

***If you have a disability and require special accommodations in taking the GED Test, please request Form L-15 (Learning Disabilities and/or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) or Form A-001(Physical Disabilities and Emotional or Psychological Disability). Approval from the State Administrator must be obtained before testing will be confirmed. ****
