Program Description

The Criminal Justice Associates Degree program within the Social Sciences Department is designed to prepare students for successful transfer to a four-year college or university. This degree program is a great choice for students interested in pursuing a career in criminal rehabilitation, law enforcement or the legal field in general. The Criminal Justice path introduces students to the following:

fundamental communications skills, basic psychology and sociology principles
the American criminal justice system including federal agencies such as police, courts, and corrections, their historical development, current trends, and public policy issues
addresses the structure and function of the judicial system and the basic concepts of criminal law and administration
an analysis of crime prevention and control and the need for the law enforcement segment of the criminal justice system
the history of corrections in Europe and America and a survey of current prison conditions and operations, including pre-release, probation, and parole
and other dynamic and very interesting coursework that prepare students for bachelor's degree completion at any one of Tennessee's state colleges and universities
