Program Description
The Criminal Justice Associates Degree program within the Social Sciences Department is designed to prepare students for successful transfer to a four-year college or university. This degree program is a great choice for students interested in pursuing a career in criminal rehabilitation, law enforcement or the legal field in general. The Criminal Justice path introduces students to the following:
- fundamental communications skills, basic psychology and sociology principles
- the American criminal justice system including federal agencies such as police, courts, and corrections, their historical development, current trends, and public policy issues
- addresses the structure and function of the judicial system and the basic concepts of criminal law and administration
- an analysis of crime prevention and control and the need for the law enforcement segment of the criminal justice system
- the history of corrections in Europe and America and a survey of current prison conditions and operations, including pre-release, probation, and parole
- and other dynamic and very interesting coursework that prepare students for bachelor's degree completion at any one of Tennessee's state colleges and universities
