Honors Scholar (A.A.)

General Education Requirements

  • ENGL 1010, 1020 or ENGL 1010-Honors, 1020-Honors / 6 credit hours
  • COM 1010 or COM 1010-Honors / 3 credit hours
  • One of the following: ART 1030, COM 1030, MUS 1030 / 3 credit hours
  • HON 2010, 2020 or two of the following: ENGL 2030 and either ENGL 2130, 2230, or 2330 or ENGL 2130, 2230, or 2330-Honors and two of the following: HIST 2010 and 2020 or HIST 2010 and 2020-Honors / 12 credit hours
  • Two of the following: ANT 2010, ECON 2010, ECON 2020, GGY 1010, GGY 2010, HPE 2340, POL 1110, POL 1120, PSY 1310, PSY 1320, or SOC 2110, SOC 2120 or SOC 2200 / 6 credit hours
  • Two of the following: BIOL 1110, 1120, 2010, 2020; CHEM 1110, 1120; PHYS 2010, 2020, 2110, 2120, *BIOL 1030; PSCI 1030; GEOL 1030 / 8 credit hours
  • One of the following: MATH 1010, 1410, 1530, 1630, 1710, 1910** / 3-4 credit hours
  • Area of Emphasis Requirements

  • IDSH 1020 / 3 credit hours
  • One year sequence in a foreign language / 6 credit hours
  • General Electives / 9-10 credit hours

  • *BIOL 1030 may not be combined with any other Biology course to complete the General Education Natural Science requirement.

    **MATH 1710 and MATH 1720 are required courses for students lacking the background to start with MATH 1910. This requirement will be verified by the mathematics faculty and the individual advisor.

    Courses selected to meet the humanities requirement, mathematics requirement, natural/physical science requirement, social/behavioral science requirement, and general electives should be chosen after consultation with an honors advisor. Courses should be chosen to satisfy requirements in the transfer major at the four-year institution selected by the student.

    NOTE: An Honors Scholar must complete at least 24 semester hours of Honors credit. At least 18 hours must be in the General Education Requirements and courses must be selected in a minimum of 3 different General Education categories. Please consult the list of Honors courses in the Course Descriptions section of this Catalog.
