Program Description
The Medical Laboratory Technician is an essential member of the health care team, performing laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of disease and maintenance of health. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical laboratory is a "1 + 1" program, meaning you meet the general education requirements for the program in your first year of study at Motlow College, then apply for admission into the program for your second year. Motlow College has an agreement to offer this program with Volunteer State Community College. A student goes to Motlow for a year then applies to the program offered at Volunteer to complete the AAS degree.
Practical Experience
Students will be introduced to the following guided learning experience:
- the preparation, testing and analyzing of human cells, tissue and fluids in order to assist with disease diagnosis and treatment
Career Opportunities
Upon successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Technology degree program and all required licensure requirements students will obtain certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician, with career opportunities at any of the following:
- hospitals
- home health services
- private physician's office
- nursing care facilities
- employment services
