EMT-IV Fact Sheet for Spring 2013 EMT-IV Students

Program Description

Emergency Medical Technician-IV training can allow a student to become certified in Tennessee as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician-IV. The training is sanctioned by the Tennessee Department of Public Health, Division of Emergency Medical Service.

Practical Experience

Students will be introduced to the following guided learning experiences:
  • On-scene emergency medical patient care including assessment of patient's condition and management of respiratory, cardiac and trauma emergencies
  • Patient care during inter-hospital transports, under the direction of more highly trained medical personnel

Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion of Emergency Medical Technician-IV training, students are eligible to sit for the practical certification examination administered by the Tennessee Division of Emergency Medical Services as well as the written exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Once all necessary credentials and licensures have been obtained, students may enjoy career opportunities at any of the following:
  • Public fire departments
  • EMS agencies
  • Health care facilities
