PTK at Motlow Continued Donations to Haven of Hope
December 20, 2011
Members of the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), at Moltow College recently extended the hand of charity even further for the area's domestic abuse program, Haven of Hope. In November, PTK held a soup drive to benefit families depending on basic survival needs from Haven of Hope. After speaking with representatives from the program, Laura Brown, PTK advisor for the Moore County campus, and Polly Howell, vice president of the Motlow chapter, pledged to do more to help during the holidays.
Their goal was to make sure women and children, who might find their selves in need of help from Haven of Hope, would have a gift at Christmas time to let them know there are people who care. Brown said, "The outpouring of gifts from Motlow has been very heartwarming. The support staff council, president's office, IT department and the Follett Bookstore all went above and beyond in providing gifts for women and children."
A representative from Haven of Hope who picked up the gifts said, "This is our last pick up before we begin assembling baskets to distribute to over 75 families in six counties." She added, "The holidays are hard. When other families are pulling together, the victims of domestic abuse that we help have the realization their family is splitting up."
Others wishing to donate to Haven of Hope can do so by calling 1-800-435-7749 or call the Manchester office at 931-728-1133. To learn more about the local Haven of Hope program visit the website www.tullahomagiving.org.
