Brooks was chosen for the award out of a group of nominees from 12 southern states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Surprise was the primary emotion Brooks felt when she learned she would be the recipient of the award.

"I'm very honored to have received this award," Brooks explained. "In the profession of teaching business education, I never thought that I would be a recipient of this prestigious award."

Brooks has received multiple honors and awards recently.
