Motlow College instructor Debbie Simpson receives initial Janet Camp Award

November 21, 2013

Debbie Simpson, instructor of education at Motlow College's Smyrna Center, was recently awarded the first Janet Camp Award by the Tennessee Association for the Education of Young Children (TAEYC), the state chapter of the national association.

Debbie Simpson, an instructor of education at Motlow College's Smyrna Center, recently received the first Janet Camp Award courtesy of the Tennessee Association for the Education of Young Children. Simpson was the first recipient of the award and was a colleague of Janet Camp.
The Janet Camp Award was presented to Simpson for her dedication and work in the field of early childhood education by Nancy James, president of the Rutherford County TAEYC. The award was especially meaningful to Simpson because she and the late Janet Camp were colleagues and friends.

"Janet was once my instructor in college, which makes receiving the award that much more special," Simpson explained. "The award was created last year prior to her death in October. It is designed for a veteran in the field, and it is a prestigious honor that I treasure. I was overwhelmed to learn that I had received the award."

"I am extremely pleased that Debbie's commitment to education, especially early childhood education, has been recognized this way," Charle Coffee, director of education at Motlow College, said. "She has worked tirelessly on behalf of our students through her work with the Tennessee Early Childcare Training Alliance (TECTA) and now as a member of our faculty. This recognition confirms the pride we have in welcoming her to Motlow."

The Janet Camp Award signifies great dedication and understanding in the field of early childhood education.
