Motlow criminology class visits Charles Bass Correctional ComplexNov. 5, 2014
The Introduction to Criminology class at Motlow's McMinnville Center recently visited the Bass Correctional Complex in Nashville. The class, taught by Dayron Deaton-Owens, assistant professor of psychology and sociology, toured the grounds of the prison, which included entering the pods where the inmates are housed, seeing the onsite medical clinic, and visiting the classrooms where many of the inmates are able to earn college degrees. "Being able to walk inside the cells and see where the inmates spend most of their time was my favorite part of visiting the prison," said student Baylee Fults. "This opportunity granted the students a chance to have a real-world learning experience outside of a classroom," added Deaton-Owens. Photo provided.
