Thomas Woods receives Jewell and Wilson Tucker Nursing Scholarship from Motlow

Oct. 15, 2015

Thomas Woods of Fayetteville has been awarded the Jewell and Wilson Tucker Nursing Scholarship through the Motlow College Foundation for the 2015-16 academic year.

Woods is a first-year nursing student and a member of the Student Nurses Association, Phi Theta Kappa honor society and Psi Beta. During his freshman year at Motlow, he served as Student Government Association senator.

Between March and November 2001, Wilson Tucker was hospitalized on numerous occasions. In 2002, members of Jewell and Wilson Tucker's family, along with friend Bob Black, endowed a nursing scholarship in their honor.

"The care he received was both compassionate and competent and I am confident that many of the nurses who cared for him and for my mother during that difficult time were graduates of the Motlow College nursing program," said Gary Tucker, Wilson and Jewell's son.

The scholarship funds tuition and fees for one academic year.

The Motlow College Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization. Anyone wishing to donate to the nursing program or the Foundation may contact Jan Casey Rogers, director of advancement, at or 931-393-1692.
