A scholarship, endowed by the Motlow College Foundation and named in memory of a former Motlow employee, has been awarded to Teresa Perry of Dowelltown. Teresa recently returned to college after 20 years and is a student at the McMinnville Center. She said, "As an older adult, who was scared to attend college, Motlow is perfect for me and I am thankful for the Foundation's help with the expenses."
Perry named three reasons why she chose Motlow. "First," she said, "The class size - I felt I might need and receive more personal attention after having been out for so long. I also like the idea that my instructors have had working experience in the business world. Secondly, the McMinnville Center is close to my home. Having spinal cord damage to my back, as the result of an automobile accident, the short travel distance is important. Everyone at Motlow has been very considerate of my physical limitations."
The business student said her final reason for choosing Motlow was that it is much more affordable than a four-year university. She said, "I feel like I get a better education for my money from Motlow with the added bonus of an intimate learning environment."
The late Delene Stone was a beloved employee of Motlow and served in many roles over her nearly 30-year career with the college. The scholarship is awarded to a business student annually to honor her devoted service. Her surviving husband, Albert Stone of Moore County, helps to award the scholarship each year. He works at the Tennessee Technology Center in Shelbyville as a youth facilitator in the Production Technician program which is a workFORCE Development Program.
