Rock Island's Julie Sullivan receives Omitowoju Nursing Scholarship

Sept. 11, 2014

Julie Sullivan of Rock Island was named the recipient of the Veronica Olanrewaju Omitowoju Nursing Scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year, according to Jan Rogers, director of advancement at Motlow College.

Sullivan is a second-year student in the Motlow nursing program and plans to continue her education at Middle Tennessee State University following her graduation from Motlow in May.

"Receiving this scholarship is an honor and a blessing," said Sullivan. "The financial support will be extremely helpful for purchasing supplies and materials for class. I am grateful to Mrs. Omitowoju for providing this scholarship."

To be considered for the Omitowoju Scholarship, recipients must be a level 1 or level 2 nursing student at Motlow. The scholarship is given annually to a female student over 40 years of age who has a dependent, and a preference is given to African-American or English-as-a-second-language students, or students with unusual challenges.

Omitowoju established the scholarship shortly after her own graduation from the Motlow nursing program in 2011. This scholarship and many others are awarded through the Motlow College Foundation.

Anyone can contribute to existing scholarships or establish new ones. For more information, visit the foundation's website at, call Rogers at 931-393-1692 or 1-800-654-4877 ext. 1692, or email
