Motlow College Nursing Program accredited through 2023 by ACEN

Aug. 19 2015

Motlow College's associate degree nursing program was recently granted continuing accreditation through the spring of 2023 by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Motlow was formally notified of its accreditation with a letter following the July meeting of ACEN's Board of Commissioners. Program evaluators recommended accreditation upon reviewing the self-study report, the catalog and the site visitors' report.

"We are very proud for Motlow's nursing program be granted continuing accreditation and to receive the recognition by ACEN," said Pat Hendrix, director of nursing and allied health at Motlow. "This accomplishment was earned through the faculty's commitment to excellence in nursing education."

In March, Motlow hosted ACEN site visitors Dr. Patricia Lusk, dean of nursing and health technologies at Germanna Community College; Cheryl Kollath, associate degree nursing instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College; Dr. Kathy Sheppard, associate dean of nursing and associate professor of nursing at the University of Mobile; and Dr. Carol Ann Hanna, nursing faculty at Delaware County Community College.

"The nursing faculty recognizes the contributions from the faculty, staff, and administrators at Motlow who assisted with the writing of the self-study and the site visit," continued Hendrix. "We also want to express our appreciation to Harton Medical Center, Saint Thomas River Park Hospital and Stonecrest Medical Center, who partnered with the nursing program during the site visit."

"On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, we thank Motlow for its commitment to quality nursing education," said Dr. Marsal P. Stoll, CEO of ACEN. "We look forward to continued successes for the nursing program."

Accreditation comes on the heels of 2014 National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) results in which Motlow exceeded state and national pass rates. Motlow's 2014 nursing graduate pass rate was 97 percent, while the state average was 87 percent and the national average was 82 percent. Sixty-three of Motlow's 65 graduates in 2014 passed the test.

While the state average is one of the highest in the nation, Motlow's 2014 NCLEX pass rate was the highest of all the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) programs as well as the TBR Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs.

"The consistently high pass rate on the NCLEX-RN highlights the quality of our students and faculty," added Hendrix. "We expect our graduates to be exceptional nurses."
