The number of students attending Motlow College's Smyrna Center has increased by almost 100 percent since the center opened in 2006. The College's nursing program has been filled to capacity since its launch one year later in 2007. Motlow's enrollment increase has emulated the population growth of Rutherford County. In addition to increasing the need for higher education for its citizens, the county's 44.3 percent population increase has lead to greater healthcare demands.

The healthcare arena has been identified as one of the county's major growth areas according to Paul Latture, president of Rutherford County's Chamber of Commerce. Motlow College helps provide employees for this growing industry. Motlow's nursing graduates represent a quality program that continues to exceed state and national pass rates for the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) for registered nurses. The majority of the college's nursing graduates who attend the Smyrna Center are employed at Middle Tennessee Medical Center and other healthcare facilities in Rutherford County.

Amy Huff, interim director of nursing and allied health, said, "The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Motlow has consistently held high standards and produced some of the finest nurses in Tennessee. As we recently reported to the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, our program has a 95-100 percent job placement rate."

Dr. Bonny Copenhaver, Motlow's provost & vice president for student affairs, adds, "A community college is dedicated to its community and to supporting and growing the educational attainment and economic prosperity of its service region. Motlow College is determined to bring quality education to the citizens of Rutherford County. Our students today become the healthcare employees of tomorrow, and we look forward to a long future of serving the county and its needs."
