Lady Bucks Sign Pitching Prospect

Hillman to be a Lady Buck - Roxanne Hillman of Clintwood, Virginia signs her intent to join the Lady Buck as parents Canella and Terry look on.

July 26, 2011

Motlow Lady Bucks head softball coach Tori Raby-Gentry has added a key ingredient to her first recruiting class, announcing that pitcher Roxanne Hillman will continue her athletic and academic career at Motlow College.

Hillman comes to Lynchburg from Clintwood, Virginia, where she was named the Pitcher of the Year in the Lonesome Pine District in 2011, and received all-district honors in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

"Roxanne is a very hard worker," said Raby-Gentry. "She has good speed and good movement on her pitches. She will be expected to come in and compete immediately for time on the mound."

The right-hander, who also plays in the infield, brings outstanding numbers to the Lady Bucks' lineup. She won 12 games in 2011, with 156 strikeouts and a 1.35 earned run average, while only losing five decisions.

"Roxanne is such a fine hitter that she may also see time on the field when she is not pitching," added Raby-Gentry. "She is definitely a solid addition to our softball program."

Hillman also put up impressive numbers at the plate during her high school senior season, finishing with a .477 batting average, two home runs, 20 runs scored, and 25 runs batted in.
