Public Invited to ACE Informational MeetingJuly 13, 2012
ACE Graduates Celebrate at Motlow - When beginning their journey together 24 months ago, these adults only dreamed of posing in cap and gown with a degree. Individually, from left, they are Todd Hill, Brenda Dugger, Brad Luna, Jimmy Sumners, Melissa Ogle and Travis Jean. Together, they are the Adult College Express (ACE) class of 2012 of the Motlow College Fayetteville Center. The ACE program is designed for busy, working adults who want to complete their education. Most classes are held one night a week, condensing all coursework into a format for disciplined adults to complete.
The Adult College Express (ACE) program at Motlow College is designed to provide educational opportunities for the working adult and will be the topic of an informational meeting to be held at Motlow's Fayetteville Center Tuesday, July 24 at 5 p.m. The information session will take place in room 017 of the Don Sundquist Center of Advanced Technologies. Prospective students are asked to bring their transcript if they have attended any school other than Motlow.
Laura Monks, director of the center, said, "The ACE program at the Fayetteville Center has been very popular with our adult students. It allows these students to go to their children's school activities while leaving time for them to go to school also. The students love taking one class at a time."
Degrees currently offered at the Fayetteville Center through the ACE program include: an AS (Associate of Science) in general studies, an AST (Associate of Science in Teaching) and an AAS (Associate of Applied Science) that prepares students for CDA (Child Development Associate.) In addition to the associate's degree offered for the latter, child care providers can also earn the Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education that is embedded into this program.
Motlow is preparing to begin new groups or cohorts this fall for each of the degrees. According to Monks, "People generally have a lot of questions about the ACE program. It is structured for a busy adult to attend classes at least one evening a week to achieve a degree." She continued, "Through this meeting we plan to explain the different degrees available and answer questions from those seeking information."
Melissa Ogle of Fayetteville recently completed the ACE program and graduated from Motlow in May. She said, "It was a dream come true for me. I started college 20 years ago and I wanted to finish. The ACE program was wonderful and allowed me to get my associate's degree. Now I'm on my way to getting my bachelor's degree through the Trevecca program at Motlow. It's a hard program, but it is so worth it. I would highly recommend it."
Registration for fall enrollment at Motlow College will continue through August 17 with classes beginning August 27. For additional information contact Director Laura Monks by email, email@example.com or by calling 931-393-3000.
