Motlow's Elizabeth White and Paige Hendrickson recognized as Read to Succeed VolunteersJuly 6, 2015
Motlow College's Elizabeth White, reading with TESL instructor, and Paige Hendrickson, librarian at the Smyrna Center, were recently recognized at a Read to Succeed (RTS) volunteer luncheon for their exemplary work with the organization.
Read to Succeed is a literacy organization established in 2003 that promotes reading in Rutherford County, with an emphasis on family literacy.
White and Hendrickson have been active in the Rutherford County community promoting literacy, including visiting area schools to read to elementary students and collecting books for an annual book drive donation to the International Book Project.
The pair have also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at Motlow's Smyrna Center as part of the organization's Adult Literacy Program. ESL courses are free to all learners.
"Our work and affiliation with Read to Succeed has been quite rewarding and mutually beneficial," said Hendrickson. "The most recent endeavor has been the community ESL classes. We hope that the considerable growing interest in these classes will develop into the creation of pre-college level ESL classes as part of Motlow's academic curriculum, which will in turn lead many of these students toward achieving long-held goals and earning college degrees for continued life success."
