Coach Nichols and the Bucks Conduct Successful Camp

June 28, 2011

A fundamentals camp held for girls and boys ages 6-13 allowed Coach Jerry Nichols and the Bucks basketball players to work one-on-one with area youth. With the focus being on fundamentals and individual skills the campers worked on agility and passing drills and obstacle course activities as well as form shooting, and ball handling drills.

While the average height on the instructional college side
was over 6'3" versus the average camper's height being just 4'7", the two groups meshed as they met on the common ground of the hardcourt. College players instructed, rebounded and praised the young players for their efforts.
The overall mood was encouraging and uplifting to build a player's self-esteem.

Coach Jerry Nichols said, "Camp was really interesting. I think the kids got a lot out of it and we look forward to those same ones coming back in the future to watch them grow in their abilities. We also hope to expand the size of the camp in the years to come."

Mother of six-year-old Eleanor Fults of Tullahoma commented, "Eleanor has had such a wonderful time and the players have been so great with her and all of the kids!"

Coach summed up the camp saying, "We felt the campers left with the knowledge they needed to help their community centers or elementary teams next season and hopefully they will continue to practice the drills we taught them."
