Motlow Smyrna Center now offering Accelerated General Education ProgramJune 4, 2015
Motlow College has enabled many working adults to pursue their educational goals through its non-traditional student programs. Continuing in that tradition, the Motlow Smyrna Center is now providing students with the opportunity to earn an associate of science degree in two years by attending classes on weekends. This new accelerated general education degree program is the perfect fit for students with demanding schedules and obligations.
"We're excited to offer this accelerated program at Smyrna, allowing students the opportunity to complete a degree without sacrificing work or family commitments," said Cheryl Hyland, director of the Smyrna Center. "Many of our students juggle multiple responsibilities and this option is a perfect fit for those individuals seeking an alternative to the traditional sixteen-week class format."
Instead of the sixteen-week format for courses, classes will meet Friday evenings 5 - 9 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. for three weeks. Science classes will follow the same format but will meet for five weeks in order to accommodate supplemental lab requirements.
Students enrolled in the accelerated program will be able to complete their degree while maintaining the flexibility for work and other lifestyle responsibilities. Individuals who have already earned academic credits, or with a pre-established degree path, may enroll in the accelerated courses as needed.
Students may also choose to enroll in additional traditional format classes during the week or evenings in conjunction with the accelerated program scheduled classes.
Prospective students should contact the Motlow Smyrna Center office at (615) 220-7805 or (615) 220-7827 for admission assistance or to schedule an appointment with a Student Success coach.
