Schedule Now for Red Cross Blood Drive at Motlow College

April 23, 2012
Blood Drive

The Student Government Association (SGA) of Motlow College is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, April 25 at the Moore County campus. The blood drive will take place in the Marcum Technology building, room 105 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The American Red Cross reports a decline in blood donations for March 2012 compared to March 2011. While a number of factors could contribute to the decline, some blood donors have indicated that allergies are impacting their ability to donate. Currently, www.pollen.comindicates that more than three-quarters of the U.S. is experiencing medium-to-high pollen counts.

According to the Red Cross website, donors have expressed uncertainty about whether they are suffering from allergies or possibly have a cold. While a cold, sinus or respiratory infection could impact someone's ability to donate blood, allergies alone do not necessarily make a donor ineligible to give. Donors taking allergy medications are encouraged to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to ask a Red Cross health professional about their eligibility to give blood.

To schedule an appointment to give blood at Motlow, visit the College's website mscc.edua to link to the Red Cross website Click on the 'Enter a Sponsor Code' link and enter MotlowLynchburg. Area residents are urged to plan ahead to participate in the blood drive.

Tips for a successful donation include; drink plenty of water, bring your donor card or two forms of identification and wear sleeves that can be raised above the elbow. Complete information about blood donation for first-time and repeat donors is available on the Red Cross website.
