April 14, 2015

The public is invited to an afternoon and evening of music performed by the Motlow College vocal ensemble and community jazz ensemble at the annual spring concert on April 29 & 30, according to Dr. David Bethea, music instructor at Motlow.

The Wednesday afternoon performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Food and drinks will be available at a pre-concert reception at 6 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the concert at 7 p.m. All activities will take place inside Eoff Hall on the Moore County campus and there is no admission charge. Donations are welcome and will help support the Motlow music department.

"I'm excited about the concert because the students and the community members are going to be presenting a wide array of musical styles," said Bethea.

The vocal ensemble, which features all students, will be singing pieces by Paul McCartney, Styx, John Lennon and Phillip Phillips. They will end the concert with an a capella version of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen.

"Every performer in the vocal ensemble plays a vital role in the performance," continued Bethea. "Each member will be featured on a solo at various time throughout the musical production."

Members of the vocal ensemble are Hannah Clifton, Thomas Meeks, Micaela Moravits, Cheyenne Whaley, Ashton Earle, Gabrielle Fulkerson, Jessica Goodine, Laura Kingery, Ashley Ramsey, Christopher Smith, Zeb Swerske, Kathryn Vincent, Abigail Headrick, Ariel Upson and Jonathan House.

The community jazz ensemble, comprised of both students and local musicians, will perform various instrumental pieces in the genres of rock, jazz and Latin music.

Performers in the community jazz ensemble are Cheyenne Adams, Meagan Crawford, Andrew Eads, Jonathan Lamb, Timothy Owens, Zeb Swerske, Ashton Earle, Ashley Parker, Stephenie Tucker, Kyle Edinger, Zackary Fair, Jonathan House, Matthew Rudder and Bradley Scarlett.
