Motlow State presents first annual Alumni of the Year Award to Vicky Groce
LYNCHBURG, TN (Apr. 12, 2016) — Motlow State Community College recently presented the first annual Alumni of the Year award to Fayetteville's Vicky Groce at the annual Motlow Foundation Gala held in March.
The Alumni of the Year Award recognizes a Motlow State graduate who has made significant accomplishments in their career and in their community.
"I am very honored and humbled to have received Motlow's first Alumni of the Year award," said Groce. "As a community college, Motlow offered me an opportunity to pursue my education that I would not have had otherwise. Motlow is a part of who I am today, and will always hold a special place in my heart. I am proud to be a Motlow graduate."
Groce earned her associate degree in nursing at Motlow State in 1984, and from there has gone on to have a successful career in nursing and administration for the Lincoln County Health System over the last 32 years.
In addition to her degree from Motlow, Groce received a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama Huntsville in 1992 and her master's degree to become a family nurse practitioner in 1994. Her most recent accomplishment has been to obtain the Nursing Home Administrator licensure.
Starting as a nursing assistant for the Lincoln County Health System, Groce worked her way up through the ranks to her current position as Chief Nursing Officer, a position she has held for over 23 years. She was instrumental in the development of many new projects over the years, including the opening of the Lincoln Skilled Care nursing facility in Fayetteville, the opening of the Petersburg Rural Health Clinic, and the construction of the new Lincoln County Medical Center.
Groce has also expanded her professional reach by providing services as a legal medical consultant and by serving as an adjunct faculty member in the nursing department at Motlow State.
Previous service positions Groce has held are president of the Tennessee Nurses Association District from 1997 to 2000, and Lincoln Leadership Board of Directors member from 2004 to 2007.
Currently she serves on the Motlow State Community College Nursing Advisory Board, the Martin Methodist College Advisory Board, and is a member of the Lincoln County Board of Health.
She has been nominated and honored with many awards, including the Voluntary Effort Award in 1985, Nominee for Quorum of Excellence Award in 1992, the Award for Materials Management in 1992, and the Tennessee Hospital Association Nurse of Distinction Award in 1995.
Groce is a loving wife to her husband, Steve, of 39 years. She has two children, one grandchild, and is the owner of a "spoiled" dog name Lily.
