Public Invited to Career Fair at Motlow College April 25
April 12, 2012
Motlow College Career Planning and Extended Services will host the annual Career Fair April 25 in the courtyard of the main campus in Moore County from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no pre-registration or fee required for students or members of the community to attend the event. Job seekers are encouraged to dress for success and bring copies of their resume. The fair will be moved into Copperweld Arena of the Nisbett Center in the event of inclement weather.
The fair provides networking opportunities for businesses and industries to meet prospective employees. Representatives from manufacturing, banking, engineering, health care, continuing education, military, beauty care and other industries will set up booths to promote their individual businesses while seeking new employees.
The mobile 'Career Coach' bus, an investment initiated by Gov. Bill Haslam and provided by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, will make its first appearance at the Career Fair. The vehicle is only one of three in the state and provides a mobile center with services similar to those at Tennessee Career Centers. Inside the Career Coach, there is a computer lab with web access and tools for job seekers including workshops for resume assistance and interviewing skills. The Coach also serves as a recruitment center for companies moving into Tenn. and helps identify what employers are looking for from applicants.
Local radio station, WDUC 93.9, The Duck will broadcast live from the Moore County campus throughout the event. The Duck serves Coffee, Moore, Bedford, Lincoln, Franklin, Marshall, and Rutherford Counties of Middle Tennessee. Representatives of Trevecca Nazarene University will serve hot dogs and drinks to attendees. Trevecca's MHR program provides an opportunity for adults to earn a bachelor's degree at Motlow.
The student government association (SGA) will serve bottled water and desserts and host a Red Cross Blood Drive during the event. SGA will also provide set ups for volleyball, corn-hole and other Spring Fling activities for fair-goers and students. Another popular attraction will be the rock climbing wall provided by the U.S. Army recruiters.
Some of the businesses confirmed for the Career Fair include Goodman Manufacturing, American City Bank, Franke Foodservice Systems, Inc., Ascend Federal Credit Union, Coffee County Beauty Academy, Hamilton-Ryker Group, Skills Development Services, Frito-Lay, Inc., Trevecca University, Haven of Hope, Aid & Assist, Demos' Restaurants, Haven of Hope, IST Services & Communications, Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC), Staffing Solutions, United Parcel Service, Tennessee Career Center and Armed Forces Recruiting for Air Force, Army, Navy and Tennessee Air National Guard.
