Motlow Smyrna Center "Café Day" will kick off Stones River Art ExhibitMarch 27, 2014
To celebrate the opening of the first Stones River Art Exhibit, the Motlow College Smyrna Center is sponsoring a "Café Day" on Tuesday, Apr. 1 in the lobby of the new Science, Technology, and Allied Health (STAH) building.
Activities are scheduled throughout the day at the Smyrna Center campus to celebrate the culture of a European-style café, beginning at 11 a.m. with a live painting exhibit by Motlow College adjunct faculty member Angela Burks.
Also at 11 a.m. there will be a "Speakers' Corner" in the student lounge of the STAH building. This event is named after a London landmark in Hyde Park where speakers stand on soap boxes and present ideas. Students and faculty members will present poems, speeches, and creative writing in a café environment. The Diversity Club will reveal winners for its recent essay contest during the first hour as well.
"Travelers' Tales" will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Success Center. This event will showcase the wandering travels of faculty and students who have been bitten by the travel bug. Slides will be shown from student and faculty travels, spotlighting the Motlow College Study Abroad program.
At 6 p.m. there will be a reception in the student lounge for the students, faculty and staff members, and community members who contributed artwork to the Stones River Art Exhibit, which will continue through Apr. 25. Light refreshments will be served during the reception and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.
