Fayetteville native Lynn Cothren to speak at Motlow's Fayetteville Center

March 9, 2015

Award-winning activist and noted speaker Lynn Cothren will present, "Women in the Civil Rights Movement," at the Motlow College Fayetteville Center at noon on Thursday, March 19.

The presentation was originally scheduled for February to honor Black History Month, but since the event was postponed due to inclement weather, it is now being held to celebrate both Black History Month and Women's History Month, which is March.

A graduate of Lincoln County High School in 1982, Cothren is currently the principal of Cothren Consulting, a global strategic relationship consulting firm in New York City. The firm consults on extensive growth strategies in the areas of inclusion, communications, organizational development and corporate responsibility.

Formerly the director of administration at Girl Scouts of the USA, Cothren's leadership role included developing and implementing organizational strategies and policies that enable girls to build courage, confidence and character.

Cothren served for 23 years as special assistant to the late Coretta Scott King, founder of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. He has appeared in interviews with Larry King, Oprah Winfrey, ABC's 20/20, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.
