Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society Spring Chari-Tea is March 13March 4, 2014
The Motlow College Foundation will host its annual Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society (MLPS) Spring Chari-Tea on Mar. 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clayton-Glass Library on the Moore County campus. The event has taken place every year since 2009, when the MLPS was formed.
MLPS is a group of women dedicated to making a difference in the life of other women, with the main focus being on the non-traditional (23 years and over) student in need of financial assistance. Donations aid women who do not qualify for the HOPE scholarship and who rarely meet federal aid requirements.
Membership is made up of ladies who donate at least $100 per year. "This amount approximately equates to giving up one lunch-out per month," said Jan Rogers, director of advancement at Motlow College. "The group is very fortunate to have so many ladies who wish to help female students. Many give more than the minimum annually."
A current member of the group has issued a match-funding challenge. Up to $25,000 raised by the group, over and above the normal $100 membership donation will be matched. These funds will be used to endow the scholarship fund so that it will remain in place in perpetuity with only the earnings from the endowment being awarded in scholarships.
Anyone willing to help with the endowment may call Rogers at 931-393-1692.
The Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society has 123 members who have donated over $94,000 for scholarships and student support in the past five years. "We see increasing need each semester and are seeking more member-donors to join our cause," Rogers added.
Anyone wishing to join the MLPS may call Phyllis at 931-393-1543.
