Motlow Moore County bookstore to host five authors to sign books March 19

Motlow College is hosting a reception and book signing at the Moore County campus bookstore on March 19, featuring authors Karen S. Veazey, Mimi Hughes, Weldon Payne, Diane Tatum, and Dr. Michael Bradley.

The reception will be from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Follett Bookstore inside the Forrester Student Center and the public is invited.

Veazey's first book Lessons Learned from a Sitcom Life retails for $11.99 and features a collection of comedic stories recounting the amusing lessons she's learned from the many television situational comedies of the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Hughes' 2013 memoir Wider than a Mile: One River Two Women retails for $16.75 and tells the incredible story of Hughes' 1,770 mile trip down the Danube River, becoming the first person to swim the river without propulsion of flippers. She has also swam the Tennessee River, the Drava and Mura Rivers, and the Ohio River.

Tatum's 2011 novel Gold Earrings retails for $19.19.

A brief plot overview from explains, "The daughter of a bordello madam and an Italian captain of the seas, Angelina Mercy, longs for a new life, free from the condemnation associated with her mother's home in Boston. A former navy man, Jonathan Thomson, has accepted God's call and become a minister of a small congregation."

Payne will be signing his latest book Scuppernong which retails for $22.95.

The book is described on as a, "Poignant and powerful novel by veteran Tennessee author Weldon Payne, grappling with the perennial core question of how far should one go in attempts to help colleagues attain salvation."

He has also written Alone (2013), Mister Malone (2012), It's Almost Tomorrow (2011), To Taste the Wild (2010), Beyond the Rain (2009), Little Boys Bad (2008) and Lonesome Time (2007).

Bradley has authored several historical books including It Happened in the Revolutionary War, It Happened in the Civil War, Old Times Are Not Forgotten, To Live in Die in Dixie, and Land of Cotton. All retail for $9.95.

Both Payne and Bradley are former faculty members at Motlow College, while Veazey works at the college as a personnel assistant in the human resources office. Hughes and Tatum are both adjunct instructors at Motlow.
