Motlow State Ladies' Philanthropic Society Spring Chari-Tea is March 18
LYNCHBURG, TN (Mar. 1, 2016) — The Motlow State Community College Foundation will host its annual Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society (MLPS) Spring Chari-Tea on Friday, Mar. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Clayton-Glass Library on the Moore County campus. The event has taken place every year since 2009, when MLPS was formed.
MLPS is a group of women dedicated to making a difference in the lives of other women, with the main focus being on the non-traditional (23 years of age and over) student in need of financial assistance. Donations aid women who do not qualify for the HOPE scholarship and who rarely meet federal financial aid requirements.
Membership in MLPS is made up of ladies who donate at least $100 per year. "This amount approximately equates to giving up one lunch-out per month," said Jan Rogers, director of advancement at Motlow State. "The group is very fortunate to have so many ladies who wish to help female students. Many give more than the minimum annually.
"In March 2014 the scholarship fund was endowed and holds $105,000, the earnings from which go into the scholarship fund so that it will remain in place in perpetuity," added Rogers. "We do still need our annual memberships to fund the scholarship as earnings on investments are very low at present and scholarship needs remain steady."
The Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society has 120 members who have donated over $200,000 for scholarships and the endowment in the past seven years. Over 50 individual students have been helped by the scholarship fund.
