Martha Scarbrough Honored with Donation to Motlow Ladies Philanthropic Society
January 5, 2012
Dr. Frank Glass, former president of Motlow College and chairman of the board for American City Bank (ACB), recently presented a $2,500 donation to the Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society (MLPS) on behalf of the Clayton Foundation. Glass stated, "Last year, through the generosity of the Clayton Foundation, we had the privilege of awarding a donation in honor Dr. MaryLou Apple, Motlow's current president and founder of MLPS. This year we are honored to present the donation in honor of retired faculty member, Martha Scarbrough."
Scarbrough was one of the original faculty members hired when the College opened in 1969. She has been a member of MLPS since its inception in 2009 and serves as the chair of the policies and procedures committee. Glass said, "My wife Kathy suggested we honor Martha with the donation because of her devotion to Motlow and her continued commitment to students through the society."
Scarbrough said, "It is a significant honor to be recognized in this way. The money is going toward something that is very close to my heart. MLPS helps women that are working hard to obtain an education to help their families. The part of me that loved and cared for students will never retire."
The next meeting of MLPS is the Spring Tea which will be held in the Clayton-Glass Library on the Moore County campus on March 8, at 2 p.m. Scarbrough added, "I invite and encourage all women to join us and discover the joy that is experienced when becoming part of this work. I truly believe that no more meaningful gift can occur for a woman than to become involved in MLPS and witness the results that are being accomplished with the money that is being given."MLPS helps women, age 23 and over, achieve their educational goals. Women who donate at least $100 annually to the Motlow College Foundation can become a member. The Foundation is an organization described in section 501(c)(3), of the IRS tax code and donations made to MLPS are tax deductible.
