Motlow Alumnus Derrick Hill brings Art to Moore County campus

January 24, 2014

The paintings of Motlow College alumnus Derrick Hill will be on display in the Eoff Hall Art Gallery on the Moore County campus through Feb. 13. The art show began on Jan. 22 with a reception in Eoff Hall.

Alumnus Derrick Hill returns to Motlow's Moore County campus to showcase some of his artwork in the Eoff Hall Art Gallery. The left piece, entitled Poison Oak and Smoke, was painted in 2012 and is done with acrylic on canvas board. The second is called Brine's Last Time, and was done with acrylic on canvas board in 2014.
"The paintings have a focus on humanity and how each of our humanities differs when compared to others," said Hill. "It seems all ideologies are premised upon a pre-conceived notion of what humanity is or what it should be. Most of my work is an attempt to bridge the gap - meditations on how we define those around us and ourselves. This is why I tend to focus on portraits.

"I have yet to figure out what I want my humanity to be," continued Hill. "Every painting is a little piece of that puzzle, a better understanding of what it means to be human, to have an identity."

Hill is currently continuing his education at MTSU, where he is working towards a degree in English. He also works as a freelance writer for the Shelbyville Times-Gazette.

The artwork is available for public viewing by contacting Bobby Underwood on the Moore County campus at 931-393-1627.
