Motlow professor Jeannie Gallant collects pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Jan. 5, 2015

Jeannie Gallant, associate professor of communications at Motlow College, has recently collected and donated thousands of metal pull tabs to the Nashville Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Motlow professor Jeannie Gallant (far left) has been collecting pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Nashville's Pull Tab Program. Pictured with her, from left, are Motlow students Katie Campbell, Shelby Adams and Jesse Fanning.
The RMHC is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to support programs for the health and well-being of children. The RMHC of Nashville's "Pull Tab Program" has an agreement with a local recycling program where the RMHC receives money from the pull tabs that are donated.

"I started collecting these tabs when I learned about it as a major fundraiser from one of my students," said Gallant. "She stayed at the house when her little brother was sick and in the hospital. I've been doing it ever since."

The pull tabs can come from beverage or soup cans and the Pull Tab Program has helped raised thousands of dollars for RMHC.

Gallant has been collecting the tabs with help from some of her students. One student, Shelby Adams, recently brought in two giant bags full of tabs. Adams was born prematurely and was hospitalized and her parents stayed at the Nashville RMHC for an extended time.

"My parents and grandparents have been collecting for quite a while," said Adams. "That was more than 18 years ago and we still try to help out in any way we can."

Gallant plans to continue her fundraising efforts, and any students interested in donating can contact her at or 931-393-1730.

"The Motlow students have been great to save and bring in zipper bags of tabs," added Gallant.
