Degree Checklist
Program Description
Classes offered in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation degree program are intended to prepare students for completion of a four-year degree program. Therefore, in addition to core collegiate coursework, students will also be introduced to the following:
- the foundations of physical education as a profession
- activities that challenge students to increase fitness levels and knowledge in the areas of nutrition,
exercise, stress management, lifetime activities and self-esteem - a study of contemporary personal health issues and behaviors including drugs, tobacco, alcohol
and human sexuality - first aid and accident prevention
- a study of developmentally appropriate curriculum, teaching strategies, techniques and activities for K-6 students
Practical Experience
Certain skills and instructional concepts will be reinforced through participation in the following activities:
- participation in fitness activities and assessments
- practice leading to certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- participation in activity courses which may include basketball or baseball coaching and/or officiating
