Community Services

Mission Statement: The mission of the Division of Extended Services at Motlow College is to provide public service and continuing education programs to promote personal enrichment and economic and community development. The Coordinator of Community Services is Kay Kimbro.

Academic grades and formal examinations are not a part of the Community Services Courses program; rather there is an emphasis on benefit to the individual through continuing education in a variety of areas. Community Services courses do not earn college credit and a high school diploma is not required.

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU): The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is awarded upon the successful completion of Community Services courses. The CEU is defined as "ten contract hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and gratified instruction." Conditions for satisfactory completion: Participants must

  1. Be properly registered and pay all fees before the course begins.
  2. Attend a minimum of 75 percent of the scheduled classes.
  3. Achieve a "satisfactory" rating from the instructor and receive a certificate. (Certificates must be picked up the last day/night the course meets and will not be mailed to participants.)

Disabled Persons: Persons who are residents of Tennessee and are disabled are allowed a 50% discount for Community Services courses. This discount is allowed after:

  1. The number of full fee-paying students required by the institution have been enrolled.
  2. Space is available.
  3. No regular full fee-paying student will be denied access to the course due to the enrollment of persons who received a 50% discount.
  4. Please tell us if you are eligible for a discount when you register. Proof of disability must be provided in requested. Do not send course fee with registration. You will be notified if space is available after the required number of full fee-paying students have enrolled. In some instances a materials fee may be charged by the instructor.
