Program Description

The Economics degree program is designed to prepare students for successful transfer to a four-year college or university Business Economics program. For students interested in studying the laws of production and consumption or supply and demand, and their impact on our society, the Economics degree program at Motlow may be just the place to start. In addition to core curriculum, the Economics path prepares students for successful transfer by introducing students to the following business applications:
  • basic principles of accounting
  • secondary accounting principles with emphasis on partnership and corporate entity accounting manufacturing cost systems and financial statement analysis
  • a study of microcomputer applications including their uses, capabilities and limitations
  • basic statistical theories, concepts, methods, and techniques, and their applications in business
  • an intuitive approach to calculus with applications to business and economics
  • other interesting curriculum in preparation for bachelor's degree completion at any one of Tennessee's colleges or universities

Practical Experience

Students will be engaged in the learning process through activities like:
  • critical thinking
  • in-depth research and analysis
  • interaction with students and instructors
  • exposure to fascinating coursework, lectures and classroom interaction
  • an independent study designed to allow exploration of a specific facet of business of particular interest to the student
