Lady Bucks Season Ends in Tournament Semifinals

The Lady Bucks (10-10, 27-21) fought their way through the losers bracket all the way to the semifinals of the TJCCAA/Region VII Tournament before being eliminated 7-4 by Volunteer St. on Monday, May 5 in Columbia, TN.

The Lady Bucks spotted Volunteer two runs in the first inning before coming right back with two of their own in the second to pull even. However, Volunteer plated five runners in the bottom of the second to chase Amanda Duke (9-5) from the mound. Kasie Meeks took over and held Volunteer to just two more runs the rest of the way, but the Lady Bucks offense, despite scoring two in the fifth, could not manage anymore runs.

In the big 4-1 win over Walters St. that kept Motlow alive Meeks was spectacular, going the distance and allowing only four hits while striking out eight. Kayla Cole and Duke both slammed home runs and drove in two runs.

Head coach Gary Barfield (423-188) will have a number of outstanding returning sophomores to mix with an anticipated strong recruiting class for the 2009 season.
