The Foundation                             Director: Phil Nixon, 393-1753

To enrich and empower its students and the community it serves is the mission of Motlow State Community College. To achieve that mission the college needs help to reach beyond the opportunities available through ever-shrinking state and federal tax support.

The Motlow College Foundation works to provide that extra financial assistance necessary to provide the citizens of Motlow's eleven-county service area with the quality education they deserve.

Exciting things are happening at Motlow College in fund raising. The $5 million endowment campaign currently stands at $3 million in contributions and expressions of intent to give. Motlow is among only five percent of two-year institutions nationwide with endowments of $1 million or more. The Foundation continues the Presidential Scholarship Program which funds ten $2,200 scholarships annually to academic high achievers.

As a result of contributions made, 92 campus facilities as well as 95 auditorium seats have been named.

Golf tournaments continue to be an excellent source of revenue as well as the annual gala.

The Development Office develops positive relationships with students, the campus community, individuals, alumni, the business and corporate sector as well as the Motlow College Foundation Trustees by providing the avenue to facilitate channeling of financial resources to enrich and empower Motlow's students.

For some, Motlow College provides the cornerstone of their careers-careers that utilize state-of-the-art technologies that can be learned through courses offered by the college. Contributions to the Foundation help supplement funds earmarked for the high-tech equipment the college needs to provide quality training. It is this training that helps to make strong the work force of our service area.

For others, education at Motlow offers an avenue out of poverty's vicious circle, a circle that forces them to work more than one job to support their families, yet provides no financial ability to pursue further education to rise beyond poverty level.

Founded in 1979, the Motlow College Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt corporation committed to providing a helping hand.

The Foundation is not seeking private support to help the college survive, but to serve as a catalyst for the self-improvement of those in the service area who need it.

The Foundation, its officers and its 70 trustees work with members of the communities in each of the eleven counties to raise funds for student scholarships, loans, grants, awards and other special college needs. It helps to close the breach created by dwindling tax support, giving students and faculty additional support in critical times. Its mission is fundamental to the basic mission of the college.

If you decide to include Motlow Foundation in your financial plan, you will, in the truest sense of the word, have invested in the future. Our community benefits from your contribution.

Today is yesterday's tomorrow

Motlow State provides a beginning for thousands of residents in our service area who are looking toward a better tomorrow. The college has touched someone in almost everyone's life in our service area.

They are the nurses and emergency medical technicians on whom our community depends. They also are the secretaries, banking professionals, real estate personnel, electronics and computer technicians, and engineering aids.

But that's only part of the story. Over 68% of Motlow students transfer to a university, where they go on to excel in their academic pursuits and professional careers.

Motlow challenges students to meet the demands of rigorous curricula while providing a serene atmosphere.
