At Motlow State Community College, we believe academic advisement is an essential element of your educational experience and we want you to succeed in your educational and career plans.
Our commitment to academic success begins from day one. Your online New Student Orientation helps you make the college connection by getting you off on the right foot and is the first step in your educational journey.
Academic advisement is another step toward success during your college career. Although you have the ultimate responsibility for shaping your future, your academic advisor will be there to assist you in identifying your academic and professional goals. Together you and your advisor can create an action plan to help you achieve those goals.
Based on your program of study, you will be assigned a faculty advisor who will work with you to help you understand degree requirements, choose courses, and monitor your academic progress. You should contact your assigned faculty advisor each term prior to registration because faculty are knowledgeable concerning program development and changes.
I look forward to helping you as you pursue your degree with Motlow College. I believe the experience you have here will help you achieve your educational and career goals.

Academic Advising is accomplished
through one-on-one interaction between students and their academic advisors. Academic
advising is an institutionally initiated support service designed to assist students
in meeting their short-term and long-term goals. Students are assigned academic
advisors according to their programs of study immediately after enrolling in the
college. If students change their programs of study, they should also change their
advisors. Advisors are full -time faculty members who teach in an academic subject
related to or primary to their advisees' programs. When advisors are not available,
students should seek advice from another faculty-advisor who teaches in the same
or related subject or stop by the Academic Advising Center in Simon Hall room
134 on the Moore County Campus or call the number above.
The Advising Center
located on the Moore County campus is a well-equipped, adequately staffed facility
where faculty, students, and community members can get information and materials
about college admission, programs of study, courses, course and program transferability,
and institutional policies and procedures. Students can also receive academic
advice and assistance with course scheduling and program completion. The Center
has a full-time director who coordinates advising services throughout the year
including new student orientations and early registration periods. The Center
is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m.
until 6:00 p.m. on Mondays. Students are encouraged to call for appointments.
The Director of Advising along with Assistant Directors for Student Services coordinates
advising services at other teaching locations in in McMinnville, Fayetteville
and Smyrna.
Academic
Advisors are responsible for assisting students in interpreting, planning, and
completing the requirements for a particular program of study. Advisors maintain
regularly scheduled office hours which are prominently posted on their office
doors and with their division deans or teaching site directors. Students should
consult with their advisors:
1.
at the beginning of the program of study;
2.
each semester during early registration periods to select courses for the upcoming
term;
3. to get information about transferability
of courses and programs to other institutions;
4.
to acquire signatures on institutional forms and documents;
5.
to submit Intent to Graduate forms.
