The Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society first met in the fall of 2009 for a chari-tea in hopes of creating a group of women who were interested in helping other women, particular those over 23 and in financial need, with educational expenses while also encouraging and mentoring these women.
The Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society currently has132 members who have donated over $69,000 for scholarships and student support. Over $30,000 has been awarded to women age 23 and over as of February 2012. Recipients are those who have been identified by the advising office, financial aid, or a MLPS member on campus as needing assistance.
The main interest continues to be providing scholarships for women 23 and over. These women do not qualify for the HOPE scholarships and often do not meet the requirements to receive financial aid. Yet, they often find themselves as single parents desiring to become qualified for better jobs.
The Foundation has formally organized the Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society; it is comprised of women who donate $100 or more annually to the Motlow College Foundation. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3); all donations made to MLPS are tax deductible.
With help, we can make this a premiere philanthropy group that will make a positive impact in our communities for years to come. Motlow serves 11 counties with over 4500 square miles and over 500,000 people.
