Angelica Lightfoot Completes Term of Student Government President
June 13, 2011
At the final President's Council meeting for the 2011 spring semester, Dr. MaryLou Apple, president of Motlow College, acknowledged and thanked Angelica Lightfoot of Moore County for her excellent job serving as president of the Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2010-2011 school year. During the recent student recognition awards Lightfoot received the Outstanding Leadership in Student Government Award for the Moore County campus and was named the Outstanding Student in Criminal Justice Administration for the Social Sciences Department.
The accolades pile up when looking at Lightfoot's leadership and academic accomplishments at Motlow. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and attended the PTK International Convention in Orlando, Fla. in 2010. In the 2009-2010 school year she was a senator for the Student Government Association and a member of the Presidential Student Leadership Institute.
While president of the SGA she was instrumental in planning and assisting with activities on and off campus, using every opportunity to promote Motlow College and its students while also reaching out to the community. She and other members of the SGA and PTK spearheaded a coat drive at Christmas for the Shepherd's House charity and as a result of the SGA's fundraising during homecoming; enough money was raised for the 5Loaves for Kids charity to feed two children for an entire year.
Sheri Mason, assistant director for student services and sponsor of the Student Government Association says, "As SGA President, Angelica did not dictate, she worked on the front lines and didn't ask others to do anything that she wasn't willing to do herself. She led by example and spent numerous hours behind the scenes planning and preparing for SGA activities. Her work ethic and dedication to the position of SGA president was evident in the success of each event." Mason continued, "This caliber of student doesn't come along often and I am thankful and grateful to have had the opportunity to know and work with Angelica."
Lightfoot finished the year at Motlow being named to Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges by nomination from the Social Sciences department and graduating with an associate's degree with three concentrations: Criminal Justice Administration, Psychology, and Sociology. Most notably she received the President's Award for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.
She is the daughter of John and Leigh Ann Hunt of Moore County and is a 2008 graduate of Moore County High School where she served as class president her sophomore and junior years and received numerous academic awards. In the fall she will be entering the 2+2 Program taking advantage of Motlow's partnership with Tennessee State University where she will attend classes at Motlow's Moore county campus working toward her bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
