Roxanne Evans Awarded 2 Scholarships
April 14, 2011
Roxanne Evans, a financial aid clerk at Motlow College, recently learned she will receive two scholarships to further her education. At a presentation ceremony for the ATHENA Award and Scholarship Program in Nashville, Evans and five other outstanding Nashville area women were recognized to receive a total of $21,000 in scholarships. She was awarded the first place $5,000 Category II Scholarship, sponsored by Emdeon, for women who have chosen to pursue an associate or bachelors degree later in life.
In addition to the ATHENA award, Evans was notified she has been chosen to receive a $7,500 Scarlett Family Foundation scholarship. The Foundation was established in 2005 with the purpose of providing college scholarships to middle Tennessee students who were pursuing a business degree and had financial need. In 2007 the Scarlett family expanded the scope of the Foundation to include supporting students of all ages.
Considered a non-traditional student, Evans chose to enroll in two of Motlow College's programs for working adults. She began with ACE (Adult College Express) where she received the prestigious John and Martha Scarborough Scholarship and the Motlow Ladies' Philanthropic Society Scholarship. She also acquired her Certified Professional Secretary credentials and is scheduled to graduate magna cum laude in May with an Associate of Science Degree.
This fall she has been accepted into the MHR program (Management and Human Relations) through Trevecca Nazarene University at the Moore County campus. She will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in management and human relations with the assistance of her recently awarded scholarships.
Evans, a wife and mother of three grown children, is active in her church and serves on the Support Staff Council at Motlow. She aspires to an MBA so that she may become an effective leader in public service, inspiring and motivating others to excel in leadership and in the development of their community.
