20th Annual Golf Tournament set for May 13

Sponsored by Bank of Lincoln County; Benefits Motlow College Foundation

April 11, 2011

Preparations for Fayetteville Golf TournamentCalling all golfers! It's time to tee-off for a good cause. Participants in the 20th Annual Charles Gleghorn Invitational Golf Tournament can win cash and prizes while proceeds from the event benefit the Motlow College Foundation. The tournament will take place May 13 at the Fayetteville Golf and Country Club and will consist of two rounds with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Breakfast is available at 7:15 a.m. and a box lunch will be served at noon.

Charles Gleghorn and Jack Netherland of the Bank of Lincoln County have been on board with the tournament since it began in 1991. They now work with Justin Harwell and Bart Lovvorn to continue the bank's yearly sponsorship. Larry Pelfrey, director of advancement for Motlow College said, "Mr. Gleghorn's commitment to the students of Motlow College over the last two decades has been life changing." He continued, "The tournament has provided scholarship dollars for many students who otherwise would not have been able to attend."

In addition to the cash prizes for first, second and third places for each of three flights, special prizes will be given for closest to pin on holes three and five and longest drive on hole four for both the morning and afternoon rounds. A special opportunity on hole 12 allows for half of the proceeds to be paid to an individual winner with the other half going to the Motlow College Foundation.

One of the bigger prizes, which has yet to be won in the tournament's 19 year history, is a new car. Dealerships in Fayetteville have taken turns over the years sponsoring the hole-in-one competition on hole 5. This year Carriage Chevrolet of Fayetteville will present a 2011 Chevy Cruze to any golfer who sinks the amazing shot.

Entry fee for the tournament is $110 per person or $440 per team. The entry includes golf, cart, food, greens fee, mulligans and prizes. The rain date for the event is May 20.
