Mathematics Faculty and Office:
In accordance with the stated mission of Motlow College, the Mathematics Discipline strives to provide a broad spectrum of mathematics services to respond to a variety of needs encountered during the learning process and educational opportunities of our diverse population. Courses in the discipline are developed to encourage students to assimilate information using mathematical, quantitative, and information-processing skills.
The developmental mathematics curriculum promotes arithmetic and algebraic readiness for the collegiate programs of study. A geometry course is available to satisfy a possible high school deficiency in that area. The slate of collegiate courses satisfies requirements for both transfer and non-transfer programs of study. All mathematics courses are designed to promote development of skills that may contribute to career opportunity and success. Within the University Parallel major, the Mathematics Discipline offers a Mathematics Area of Emphasis and the mathematics courses included in this program of study provide the basis and foundation for success in a mathematics-related field.
A primary goal of the discipline is to recruit and retain well-prepared students into the Mathematics Area of Emphasis. To this end, the discipline provides quality mathematics instruction at all Motlow campus sites. Alternative delivery of some mathematics courses is also available.
A mathematics laboratory located on the Moore County campus provides tutorial services as well as access to class notebooks and computer software. No fees are charged for these services and no academic credit is given. Additional math lab support via the Internet will be established for most courses as textbook publishers make these services available.
